My Approach to Project Design:
How We Do It
My design approach is very collaborative. Whether it is just us, or working together with you and your Builder and/or Architect, at the outset of the project process we will establish key functional and aesthetic goals for the interior hardscape of your project, as well as budget and schedule criteria.
The project process begins by me learning about you: how you and your family live, relax, and recreate; what and how you like to cook; your style of entertaining; your design sense; etc. We will establish the “tool kit” that will set the foundation for your dream kitchen. After the framework of your project is established, I will prepare schematic sketches and a budget estimate for your project.
As an example of one of the many opportunities available, we may take a short trip to Denver to visit the Roth Living Wolf/SubZero showroom to see, touch and even test drive some of the very best appliances out there.
While appreciating most styles of design throughout history, I don’t have a specific “style” of my own... but you might! Whether it be a historic renovation, “mountain modern” or the longevity of a classic style, together we will develop the aesthetic approach that best suits your project. We will get many of the tough decisions made early in the process.
I will prepare fully coordinated design and installation drawings, complete with product specifications, for all of the items that are purchased through Thurston Kitchen + Bath. These documents will be the roadmap for your Builder at the early stages of the construction process and throughout the installation of the Thurston-supplied products.
Please note that I am frugal in my personal life; Peter and I live and work here in Crested Butte. I really understand the concept of keeping to established schedules and holding to budgets of all levels.
I understand the importance of Universal Design planning concepts. Sustainable Design practices are native to my design process.
I have spent hundreds of hours on both commercial and residential construction sites. Being here in Crested Butte, I can be the local advocate for you throughout the construction process. I will be in communication with the Build Team and on site often. I will be available to address any questions that the Builder may have about the details of your project. I will be on site when the cabinetry and appliances are delivered and periodically throughout the installation phase.
Having a single point person for contact throughout the project process will assure clear communication, that the process is easy for you, and that the project vision is carried out and comes to life through the details.
I will deliver great design solutions for your interiors projects: clean and elegant that fit the budget. I love to create the spaces where you love to live!
MPH Design Services / What We Do
In addition to her work at Thurston Kitchen + Bath, Maureen is available on a consultant basis for select Interior Design services through MPH Design:
- Interior Space Planning for Residential and Commercial projects.
- Concept and Design Development for Interior hardscapes: We don’t do furniture; we don’t do pillows. There are plenty of other skilled local interior decorators that do that. We will provide planning and design services to establish the concept for the interior hardscape within your space: layout and flow, built-in elements, and concepts for finish materials and lighting.
- Concepts for Gear Rooms and Outdoor Kitchens
- Universal Design: interior concepts for aging and living in place
